David Ben Gurion declared the state of Israel in Tel Aviv on May 14, 1948 (5 Iyar, 5708). It will be commemorated on April the 29th this year.
It does not matter what your native tongue is, where you were born and where you currently live... It does not even matter if you agree with the political decisions of the heads of the state. What matters, is that from that day on, all people of Jewish decent can hold their heads up- the state of the Jewish nation will support and protect them no matter what.
